Central Java landslides claim thirty lives, twenty-one still missing
In Pandanarum, Banjarnegara Regency, rescue personnel confirmed 10 fatalities and said 18 others remain unaccounted for following the landslide on Nov. 15. “The search was conducted manually and with the use of sniffer dogs,” as stated by reports, which noted that 17 heavy machines were deployed to dig through soil that had buried multiple homes.
In Majenang district, Cilacap Regency, the recovery team discovered 20 bodies, with three people still missing after last week’s landslide, according to reports. National Search and Rescue Agency Chief Air Marshal Mohammad Syafii said, “We are making every effort to find the three victims who are still being searched for.”
In a separate but related weather event, monsoon rains caused severe flooding in southern Thailand’s Songkhla province, affecting 159 villages and approximately 17,000 households. Reports indicate that 44,958 people were impacted, with no fatalities or injuries recorded. Seven districts have declared emergency disaster zones to manage the crisis.
